Catholic Heritage At present, Catholic Heritage enables users to search thousands of individual catalogue entries from 6 different Catholic institutions, representing 4 different European countries. However, the network reflects an ambition to bring together and provide access to collections which reflect the rich history of the Catholic Church in a British context and serves to celebrate Catholicism’s contribution to British history as a whole. Therefore, an important future role of the network project team will be to encourage the participation of other Catholic organisations and to ultimately to bring these rich resources together in digital form and make them accessible to the academic and religious community at large.
The Catholic Gene The Catholic Gene was founded by a diverse group of friends who share two common things: a love for both genealogical research and the Roman Catholic faith. Most of the authors were “born Catholic”. Some came to the faith later in life. Some aren’t actually Catholic but appreciate the faith as much as the rest of us. They hope that their blog will provide readers with useful information about the Catholic faith and genealogy.
Scottish Catholic Archives The Scottish Catholic Archives preserves, selects and makes available the archives of the Catholic Church in Scotland and abroad. Holding over 800 years of documentary evidence of the Catholic Church in Scotland and the wider world, the Scottish Catholic Archives is a major resource for understanding Scottish and European history. From letters of Mary, Queen of Scots; baptismal records for individuals such as Arthur Conan Doyle; and papers relating to Oscar Wilde, the collections held relate to five continents and are written in at least 12 languages.
Societies
Catholic Family History Society The Catholic Family History Society can point you in the right direction if you’re searching for your Catholic ancestors. Society members receive Catholic Ancestor, their journal, three times a year containing members’ own researches and a wide range of helpful articles.
Midland Catholic History Society Contains articles on post-Reformation Catholic History, of interest to the general reader as well as to historians and antiquarians, and an essential aid to the local Catholic historian.
English Catholic History Association Encourages interest in the Catholic history of England and Wales. They organise visits to places associated with the Catholic faith, and arrange conferences on subjects relating to Catholic history.
