The North West Kent Family History Society was formed in 1978 with the object of aiding and encouraging the study of family history and genealogy in South East London and North West Kent.
We currently have around 1,400 members, whose interests cover the whole of Great Britain and beyond.
Amongst its many advantages membership offers a quarterly journal, meetings with talks at each of our three venues, house group meetings, an internet mailing list, a document ordering service; and occasional coach trips to Kew etc.
We have a thriving Library open to members every Wednesday, which holds the Society’s collection of books, CD’s, and other reference material. The Society’s Research Service operates from the Library, and Workshops are held there on a regular basis, on various computing and family history topics.
The Society publishes a range of CDs and booklets derived from our project work. These include transcripts & images of parish & cemetery registers, census returns and monumental inscriptions. We also make donations to record offices to help with the preservation and publication of their records.
The website contains information of interest to members and non-members alike, such as the surnames being researched by members, a list of events where the Society will be represented, and photographs of west Kent churches.
